National History
Sigma Kappa Sorority was founded at Colby College in Waterville, ME on November 9, 1874 by five amazing women. Our five founders
are Mary Caffrey Low, Elizabeth Gorham Hoag, Ida Fuller, Frances Mann and Louise Helen Coburn. In 1904, Sigma Kappa joined the
Interfraternity Conference, which is now the National Panhellenic Conference. The original chapter was limited to membership of only
25 women. Today our national organization has grown to 123 collegiate chapters, 110 alumnae chapters, and more than
165,000 members worldwide. Sigma Kappa unites its members with strong values - personal growth, friendship, service, and loyalty.
